What you can expect

There are dozens of different dances - all part of the fascinating Balinese culture. This tour takes you to the village of Batubulan to see all three dances.

Kecak (Monkey) Dance - Performed by a group of at least 50 men who dance in a circle around blazing bamboo torches. Possibly the most dramatic of the 3 dances, it has been taken from the Hindu epic Ramayana, the dance tells the story of Prince Rama and his rescue of Princess Sita, who has been kidnapped by the evil King of Lanka. The chorus of men, who provide the orchestral accompaniment with complex and varied chants that company their swaying movements. The only music to accompany them are the beats of their palms hitting their chests, their thighs, or other parts of their bodies, or their claps, rhythmically accompanied by shouting and chanting. Flickering torches provide lighting and an enchanting atmosphere.

Fire Dance - Where the dancer becomes entranced and is able to dance on hot coals without feeling pain.

Sanghyang (Trance) Dance - Traditionally performed as an exorcism to promote peace and health within the village. After the dance performances, your guide will be happy to drop you at a local restaurant of your choice, close to your hotel, or back to your hotel.

First stop we will visit Ubud Royal Palace & Ubud Market
The Ubud Royal Palace is one of the most prominent places in Ubud, the palace can also be regarded as the focal landmark of Ubud. The Ubud Royal Palace was built during the lordship of the late Ida Tjokorda Putu Kandel (1800-1823), and is well-kept by his successive heirs. It has well-preserved Balinese architecture and charming garden settings, and is best known among lovers of Balinese arts as one of the main sites to view.

Tirtha Empul Temple also known as the Holy Spring Temple located in Tampak Siring, for more than a thousand years the Balinese worshippers have come to this temple to have holy water purify their bodies from bad luck. The local people believe the water in this temple has the power to clean the body from all negative things.

Kintamani Village is the object of mountain tourism and is very unique and stunning, with cool air conditioning in the daytime and cool weather at night. Kintamani is 1500 meters high and he village of Kintamani is a cool, damp climate suited to growing oranges and passionfruit. On market day, which falls every third day, the main street becomes a bustling chaos of vendors, some of whom have travelled from very far away.

Tegallalang Rice Terrace is one of the tourist icons in Ubud Bali. The rice terrace is designed very beautifully with exquisite hollowing rice fields and is precisely located on the hill bank. In this place, you will enjoy the beautiful panorama of the valley with rice terraces and coconut trees.

The first stop on the tour is the Bali Swing. A series of several different swings of varying heights, the Bali Swing overlooks a lush palm tree valley and the Agung River. Here you will be truly immersed in the Balinese jungle. If you don’t wish to partake in a swing ride, consider one of the ‘hanging nests’ that are scattered around the grounds. Wedged between two enormous palm trees, these nest-like structures serve as lookout points for the spectacular views and are perfect for enviable photoshoots.

We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing on to central Ubud. Puri Saren Ubud, the palace of the latest King is a not-to-miss sight that features intricate Balinese design and beautiful grounds. We journey to the nearby Ubud Art Market to see more traditional Balinese crafts, where you can shop for beautiful souvenirs or simply admire the artists’ works.

As we depart from Ubud Center, our last stop of the day is Tegalalang. One of Bali’s most recognized places, Tegalalang’s famous rice terraces are one of the most picturesque and iconic scenes of the island. Take photos looking down at the breathtaking scenery or explore the fields and feel the grandeur of the area before you are returned to your hotel.

Spend a day touring around Bali on a classic Volkswagon as you arrive at the Tirta Empul temple. Built during the 9^th century during the Warmadewa Kingdom time, Tirta Empul is commonly known as the Holy Spring Water Temple. It was given its name for the natural spring and bubbles from the ground, inside one of the temple’s inner pools.

In the outer pools of the temple, locals and visitors alike gather to produce offerings and purify themselves in the clear waters that are believed to have magic curative powers.

After taking your turn to submerge your head along the temple’s water spouts, you will enjoy a light lunch on-site before making a food offering and a traditional blessing by Pemangku (Local Priest).

Be picked up in the morning from your hotel and enjoy a beautiful scenic drive along the island's mountains and highlands. On the way, wander around the verdant rice terraces and spot the alpine vegetation. Gain a fascinating insight into the culture of the real Bali as you visit the local Candi Kuning market. While here, enjoy the array of fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, and exotic flora, including wild orchids and roses.

Then soak in the refreshing mountain air, view the breathtaking Lake Beratan, and see the big crater of Mount Batukaru at 2,800 feet (850 m) above sea level. While here, make sure to visit a temple built by the locals to honour the goddess and guardian of the lake. Afterwards, stop at Munduk Village and take in the fresh air as you marvel at the majestic twin lakes before you.
Travel along the coast of Lovina and stop for a lunch at a fabulous black sandy beach. After refuelling your stomach, arrive at the historic old town of Singaraja, this former colonial administrative capital possesses architecture recalling past eras. Take a chance for a stroll and stop for a walk at Gitgit Waterfall as you ponder its impressive vegetation and peaceful surroundings.

STOP POINT:  Taman Ayun – Ulun Danu Temple – Alas Kedaton – Tanah Lot Temple

Taman Ayun means The Park of Beauty, and indeed Taman Ayun Temple is one of the most beautiful temples in a beautiful park. It is considered by many as one of the most interesting temples in Bali. The temple was dedicated to the ancestor of the former kingdom of Mengwi.

We will then drive to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. It is commonly called the Bali temple on the lake, because it looks like it is floating on water, particularly when the water level in the lake is rising.

Alas Kedaton is a small forest with about 6-7 hectares and located in the middle of the rice fields in the Tabanan regency, west of Bali. The total size of the Kedaton forest, temple and its supporting facility is about 12 hectares. In this forest, there is a temple called Alas Kedaton Temple which blends into the natural environment. The greenery and fresh air creates a calm, quiet and holy atmosphere.

Our last tour is visiting Tanah Lot Temple, this temple was built in the 16th century by the Javanese priest Danghyang Nirartha. This priest built many temples near the sea and around the island including Rambut Siwi Temple in the west of Bali, Pulaki Temple and Ponjok Batu Temple in the North of Bali. On the western side, there is a small temple built on a rock with a hole called Batu Bolong Temple. Batu means Rock and Bolong means hole.

Be picked up from your hotel in Bali and journey to the eastern district of the island, Karangasem. Along the way, see scenic views of the green hills and vistas of volcanic mountains. Stop at Kerta Gosa's Hall of Justice and be amazed by the beautiful and historic paintings along its walls.

Afterwards, admire the amazing scenery of rice terraces, winding roads, and palm trees stretching to the glistening sea from Bukit Jambul's hilltop. Later, visit the majestic Besakih Temple, where offerings were made to the God of Mount Agong. Dating from prehistoric times, this temple is the holiest and largest Hindu temple in Bali, befitting its nickname as the "Mother Temple."
Your tour continues to the original village of Aga at Tenganan as you witness local traditions which have remained unchanged for centuries. Next, travel along white sand beaches and spot the fishing village of Kusamba.

Before your journey back to Bali, stop at Goa Lawah and admire thousands of bat bodies packed tightly along the cave's upper surface. Witness the many shrines at its entrance, erected to protect the cave from evil spirits.

Continue up in the mountains to Besakih Temple, almost 1000m above sea level. Besakih is the mother temple of Bali and probably originated as a prehistoric sanctuary where offerings were made to the God of Mount Agung.

Next visit the traditional village of Tenganan - one of the original Bali "aga" villages where traditions have changed very little over centuries.
Drive through the beach resort of Candidasa, to enjoy the beach and black sandy beach.

Your local guide will pick you up at you to begin your half-day sightseeing tour at Puputan Square, an attractive open square located in the city centre. This classic urban park draws many locals and is a great place to learn about Bali’s colonial history. You’ll find a monument depicting a heroic Balinese family in the square, which commemorates the suicidal battle of the rajas of Badung against the invading Dutch militia in 1906.

Next, head to the Bali Museum, located near the former royal palace of Denpasar. Spend 30-40 minutes exploring its collection which ranges from prehistoric finds to early 20th-century art. Four main buildings inside the museum showcase Indonesia’s rich history and cultural heritage. View displays of theatrical masks, musical instruments, sculptures, paintings, and textiles. You’ll see scale models depicting ritualistic Balinese tooth filling, marriage and cremation ceremonies, which your guide will explain.

A visit to Denpasar isn’t complete without experiencing the colourful pasar (Indonesian for ‘market’), where locals sell their products and haggle over prices. Pasar Badung is Bali’s largest food market and features fruits, spices and other edible goods sourced from the entire island. After an opportunity to browse and bargain, spend approximately 1.5 hours at one of the new supermarkets—the equivalent of a department store—where food is available for purchase (at your own expense).

Your last stop is the Bali Art Center, a traditional Balinese building with a permanent exhibition of modern paintings and woodcarvings. Also known as Taman Budaya (Bali Culture Park), the vast complex also demonstrates traditional Balinese architecture. Your half-day tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

After watching the dolphins, we will drive you to one of the nice resorts in Lovina to enjoy your continental buffet breakfast. So, don’t be afraid to miss your breakfast in your hotel as we won’t let you starve.

Continue to visit Gitgit Village, a village very famous for its twin waterfalls which are encircled by a fertile rainforest plantation. There is also an opportunity to have a bath in the clear water with a fresh atmosphere. Please bring your towel and a change of clothes if you don’t want to miss the chance. After you freshen up here, we will visit the amazing Ulun Danu Temple. The journey from the Gitgit Village to Ulun Danu Temple will take around 30 minutes. The temple itself is located on the shores of Lake Beratan very close to one of the most astonishing golf courses in Bali. Lake Beratan is the second largest lake after Lake Batur on Bali island. The weather in the area is mostly cooler compared to the southern part of Bali. Ulun Danu Temple was built in the early 17th century and serves the majesty of the God of Water.

Before we head back to the hotel, we will take you to enjoy another meal at one of the local restaurants that serve an Indonesian buffet lunch. Once lunch is completed, we will drive you back to your hotel, the journey will take around 2 – 2.30 hours. En route, you will see local people busy life doing their routine activities.

Your first stop is at the village of Blahbatuh, home to Bali’s only surviving Gong Smith, who is an expert at casting bronze to make Balinese musical instruments. At a factory, watch the fascinating process of creating an entire gamelan orchestra — from large gongs to tiny bells. Your guide will describe the ancient method of casting metal components of the xylophone-like instruments for each gamelan.

Next, your guide will take you on a tour of the Archaeological Museum, also known as the Gedung Arca Museum. Located in Bedulu Village, approximately 4 miles (7 km) from Ubud and 18 miles (30 km) from Denpasar, the museum displays historical and pre-historical collections dating back to the Stone Age. You’ll see bronze bells used as religious tools in the 15th century and view huge stone sarcophagi — ancient royal coffins dating back to 500 BC. Continue to the plantation village of Sri Batu and explore the garden on foot. Your guide will point out various plants being harvested and explains their culinary or medicinal uses. Here, you'll have the opportunity to purchase a range of eastern spices, cloves, coffee and tropical fruit.

In the cool mountains of Kintamani, take in the views of Mt Batur. Black lava runs from the peak of this active volcano to the valley floor, where the shimmering Lake Batur — Bali’s widest lake — lies at its base. Stop here for a delicious lunch (own expense), served in a local restaurant offering an Indonesian buffet and magnificent vistas. Marvel at the crescent-shaped lake, surrounded by the steep walls of the crater rim where the original Mt Batur erupted tens of thousands of years ago.

After lunch, make your way to the traditional village of Penglipuran. Wander with your guide through a bamboo plantation, and learn about the ancient beliefs and unique customs the locals maintain. Finally, head to Bukit Jati, located in Gianyar, where you’ll partake in afternoon tea and coffee, served as you enjoy views of the rice fields and the blue sea beyond.

We continue on to Gunung Kawi, one of Bali’s most unique archaeological sites. Gunung Kawi Temple has two rows of ancient royal tombs on the banks of the Pakerisan River overlooked by terraced rice fields. The holy Pakerisan River flows through the centre of Gunung Kawi cutting the site into two separate sections with a bridge to connect one side to the other. It is believed the holy waters of the Pakerisan sanctify Gunung Kawi and the beauty of the place evokes a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, we travel to Kintamani to enjoy spectacular views of Mount Batur. With ribbons of black lava running down from its peak to the valley below, Batur’s crater is holy and a sanctuary at the top is dedicated to a fertility goddess.

The route back to your hotel takes you to our last stop, one of Bali’s holy springs called Toya Devasya. With an infinity hot spring pool sitting on the edge of Lake Batur, you’ll put on your bathers and enjoy the spiritual waters that offer an unmatched, majestic panorama of Mount Batur. This is the ultimate relaxing way to end the day.

What you can expect

Continue on through the woodcarving village of Mas. Watch artisans chipping intricate designs from woodblocks. Then visit the fantastic 11th-century Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah) before moving into the cool mountains of Kintamani.

View Mount Batur an active volcano with ribbons of black lava running down its peak to the valley below. Beside lies the shimmering Lake of Batur. Enjoy lunch in a restaurant providing wonderful views of Kintamani (lunch is at your own expense).

On the return trip back, you will stop at Tirta Empul, also known as the Holy Water Temple, home to a natural spring whose waters are believed to have magic curative powers. The day ends in Ubud, the artistic heart of Bali and Celuk the gold and silver-making centre on route.

Our next stop is Tirta Gangga, a well-known cultural destination of Bali. A former palace belonging to the Royal Family of Karangasem, Tirta Gangga Royal Water Garden is a stunning maze of koi-filled ponds and impressive fountains surrounded by lush gardens with statues and stone carvings. The one-hectare palace and garden complex is situated in the middle of spectacular lush green rice fields nestled around the natural springs of Rejasa. The water from the natural springs of Tirta Gangga has always been regarded as holy and is often used for religious ceremonies.

We stop to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant with panoramic views of Bali’s countryside, including calming rice fields and majestic Mount Agung.

Our final stop and highlight of the day is the Taman Ujung water palace, the sister site of Tirta Gangga. Also built by the late King of Karangasem, the complex consists of various large pools and historic structures set against the spectacular backdrop of Mount Agung and the eastern shoreline. Take time to admire the combination of Balinese and European architecture seen in the palace’s ornate pillars, statues, garden and pool features not typically seen in Bali. After plenty of time to explore this beautiful place, you will be returned to your hotel.

Mengwi “Taman Ayun” Temple originally dates from 1634. This picturesque temple complex surrounded by a moat, has an elaborate stone entrance gate. Its well-kept grassy courtyard boasts numerous pavilions and multi-roofed MERU shrines with intricately carved wooden gates.

Monkey Forest is a cluster of towering trees that are home to hundreds of monkeys who go about their way fearlessly in their temple haven, and hundreds of fruit bats who sleep by day and “hunt” by night.

Your last stop is Tanah Lot, famous in Bali as the Sunset Temple. Watch the sunset beyond the black towers of this sacred 16th-century temple built on a black lava rock 200 meters offshore. It will be an experience to remember. Tide conditions permitting, you can walk across the beach to the temple.

Bale Puputan was built in tribute to the Balinese Heroes who sacrificed their lives during the “Battle to the Last Man” against the Dutch Colonists. These were the battles of Puputan of Badung in 1906 and Klungkung in 1908. The Royal Balinese Dining Room is inspired by the service to Balinese Kings of their subjects. Guests can enjoy the comfort of the antique regal armchairs while they dine at the largest 19th-century whole marble table in the country, surrounded by antique statues representing the creatures of Balinese mythology. Here guests can experience the elegant imperial dining of the Balinese kings and princes as they lived at the beginning of the Dutch colonial era. The dishes are presented on Dulang (Balinese-style Wooden Offering Plate), some of the regally fine and traditional Balinese dishes served are Babi Guling (a whole Suckling Pig), Bebek Betutu (Roasted Duck that is cooked in coconut husks for twenty-four hours), Jukut Meurab (Marinated Vegetables in Grilled Coconut), Lawar Kacang (Marinated Long Beans and Chicken) and Jukut Ares (Banana Stem Soup with Chicken)

Your first stop is at a local market where personal assistants help you choose the fresh ingredients, such as vegetables, herbs, meat and spices that you will use for your cooking class.

Next, visit a rice plantation and learn about the cultivation and preparation of this staple ingredient for all Balinese meals. While there, enjoy scenic views of the natural surroundings.

Continue your tour to Laplapan village, a traditional Balinese village, and be warmly welcomed by the local villagers. Learn the secret of preparing Balinese food with the ingredients you have chosen. Expert chefs are on hand to provide guidance and assistance throughout the cooking class.

Interact with your fellow cooks and discover handy techniques as you prepare three starters, four main courses and one Balinese dessert. After your informative cooking lesson, sit down and enjoy satisfying and delicious Balinese meals in addition to your culinary creation.

Next visit the Batuan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Bali. To visit any temple in Bali, both men and women should wear a sarong, scarf or sash tied around the waist. Sarong and sashes are provided in Batuan Temple, and you can use that for free, as long as you visit the temple.

Tukad Cepung, Tribumana, and Tegenungan
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and bring you on a beautiful journey.

First stop at Tribumana Waterfall, a hidden Waterfall at the northeast of Ubud. You will need to walk down some stairs and pathways to discover this beautiful waterfall. Here you are able to swim in fresh water from the mountain.

Next visit Tukad Cepung, a very unique waterfall in the hidden valley of a thick jungle. Walk downstairs into a jungle pathway. Continue along the river and in between the rocks until you find a hidden waterfall just under the cave. Along the way, enjoy a Balinese lunch.

Last stop at Tegenungan waterfall. This waterfall is the biggest among the three waterfalls. It is the closest to the centre but still a very mesmerising waterfall. Many spots for pictures and it's also good for swimming. Expect more people at this waterfall.

What you can expect

In addition, you will learn about Balinese traditional farming. Your tutor will share their knowledge on the traditional irrigation systems, rituals related to farming activities, temples in the rice field area, etc. You can do this activity at your preferred time. If you want to see the sunset at the end of the trekking, you can do this in the afternoon. On the other hand, if you want to see the sunrise, choose a time in the early morning. Last but not least, enjoy a delightful fresh lunch/dinner produced from the farm.

After hotel pickup in the morning, drive eastward by comfortable coach toward the Karangasem region of Bali to visit Karangasem Palace (Puri Agung Karangasem). Built in the 19th century by Anak Agung Gede Jelantik—the area's first king—the palace is a showcase for unique architecture, which combines Balinese, Chinese and European designs.

Your guide will enlighten you about the kingdom and Bali’s historical relations with the Dutch before leaving the royal palace. Head east to visit the beautiful gardens of Sukasada Park. Your guide will point out the old Karangasem Empire heritage building, set in the middle of a large fishpond. Designed in a European style that reflects various cultural designs, the building was used by the Karangasem king for relaxation and to host important guests. Inside, you’ll find a collection of Karangasem artifacts including photos of family kings, royal furniture and other objects.

Admire panoramic views of the lovely pond and Mt Agung on the north side before your guide transports you to the Sebetan village, well known for growing salak—commonly called snake fruit for its reddish-brown scaly skin. A stroll along the town road offers breathtaking vistas of mountains, palm trees and villages and in the distance, against a scenic backdrop of the blue ocean.

Before your last destination at Tirta Gangga, make a lunch stop at a nearby restaurant that serves Indonesian fare (own expense). Then explore the water palace of Tirta Gangga, built in 1948 by the Karangasem King of Anak. Here, tiered water fountains with stone sculptures of mythical creatures spouting water into bathing pools of the former royal palace. Spend some time enjoying great photo ops amid the park’s tranquil gardens before your guide transports you back to your hotel.

You will start either in the morning or late afternoon by visiting a traditional market to buy all ingredients. The best way to experience a new culture is through their traditional cuisine. Indonesia holds such a variety of delicious delights. Allow the experts to introduce you to the island of Bali through its aromatic array of cuisine. Hospitable locals invite you to their lovely outdoor setting among picturesque rice paddies. 

Experience first-hand how to cook Balinese cuisine, a memory that will be hard to forget. You will be introduced in detail to a variety of ingredients and how to cook them. You will then cook some traditional Balinese dishes, such as sate lilit (satay made from minced meat or fish, wrapped around lemongrass sticks), sate tusuk (satay on skewers), lawar (mixture of vegetables, grated coconut and minced meat mixed with rich herbs and spices), pepesan tum (minced meat or fish mixed with herbs and spices, wrapped with banana leaves), gerangasem (spicy chicken soup), etc.

We are greeted with a welcome drink as we start in the communal dining area. Enjoy time on your own to explore the on-site bamboo forest and permaculture garden. We then join our guide inside the compound’s two biggest houses for a 1-hour tour. The highlight is the showcasing of how black and white bamboo can be combined to create a stunning collection of luxurious floors, walls, ceilings, stairs and railings. Your local guide will meet you at the reception of your hotel, where you will depart for Celuk Village, famous for its gold and silver workshops. Explore the many cottage industry artisan workshops and galleries, where skilled artisans design and create stunningly intricate jewellery. Learn about the processes and designs from your informative guide.

The day’s next stop takes us to learn about another of Bali’s traditional crafts. Exploring the Mas Village, famous for its distinctive style of wood sculptures, you will find natural designs, as well as characters from Hindu mythology. Balinese woodcarving is considered to be one of the finest in the world. For centuries, woodcarvers created sculptures influenced by traditional beliefs and Hindu myths. Engage with expert carvers who still chisel by hand, intricate designs and pieces, such as traditional Balinese masks used in Balinese ritual ceremonies.

Your final stop is to Ubud, the artistic heart of Bali. Here, many local and European artisans have set up workshops and galleries. Explore these galleries with your guide, to obtain a greater understanding of Bali's art and crafts scene and history. View traditional Balinese paintings as well as a variety of works by contemporary artists, before returning to your vehicle for the return back to your hotel.

When the regent of Ubud – Cokorda Gede Agung – founded the painter’s co-operative, a dance troupe and a gamelan orchestra in the 1930s, his intention was to ensure the preservation and development of Balinese arts. Gradually, Ubud and neighbouring Peliatan village became a mecca for painters, dancers, musicians, and writers alike. Even today, the gentle pace of life, the village atmosphere, the wholesome cooking of the eating houses, the wealth of Balinese culture and the quality crafts all prove irresistible to the discerning visitor.

Entrance to one of the following cultural performances is included:

1. Legong Dance – a selection of 5 or 6 short dances, usually including the dramatic Baris warrior dance. (Ubud & Peliatan dance troupes are particularly renowned for these dances). Every Monday at Ubud palace, 19.30hrs, Every Saturday at Pura Dalem Puri, 19.30hrs
2. Ramayana Ballet – a classical dance re-enacting part of the Indian Ramayana epic.

After being picked up by your guide, you will be driven along the winding shoreline to Uluwatu Temple, located among the southern cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula, whose dramatic precipices rise almost 330 feet (100 meters) from the Indian Ocean. Majestically perched on the edge of a steep promontory, the small temple dates back to the 10th century and is counted among six temples most revered by the Balinese people.

With a beautiful ocean sunset as your backdrop, enjoy a Kecak Dance with traditional Balinese movements and chants performed in a circle around a blazing torch.

Afterwards, continue on to an expansive beach in Jimbaran Bay for a delicious barbecue dinner. Dine under the stars as you’re served a seafood platter including prawns, grilled fish, squid, and clams, accompanied by rice, spinach and sambal (spicy Indonesian sauce).

Your 4-hour experience ends with drop-off at your hotel.
